I know exactly how that feels. I have held back tears throughout the day in an effort to spare my dad and little sister the stresses of seeing me cry. I fool myself into thinking that I am doing them a favor by hiding my emotions, but if you were to ask my dad I bet money he would say that he would rather cry with me than see me cry by myself. That makes me realize that me hiding my tears isn't as much me trying to protect them, but my attempt to protect myself from feeling naked and vulnerable.
